What are aquacultured corals?

Aquacultured corals are grown in closed systems and not collected from the ocean.

The corals are live corals fragmented or grown out from a larger coral or mother colony. If these corals are not already attached, they are then glued to live rock rubble or special plugs made for coral frags or aquaculturing.

Why are Aquacultured Corals the Better Choice?

Aquacultured corals are considered hardier because they are raised in captive conditions much like those in your home reef system. The coral therefore does not have to be acclimated to the captive conditions in the same way coral collected out of the ocean does.

Aquacultured coral can also be more colorful, more disease resistant and tend to not to loose their color as easily once placed in your reef aquarium. Since aquacultured corals are grown in a captive system your purchase of them does not impact the natural reefs which are better for the long term health of our reefs.

How do I know which corals are Aquacultured?

Aquacultured corals sold by Salty Underground are listed as such in the title of the coral. These aquacultured corals</a > are also grown out in our systems or provided by a local vendor.
