Saltwater grass shrimp (Palaemonetes pugio) are one of the best larger live foods available for meat eating fish like puffer fish, eels, and lionfish. They’re highly nutritious and even the most finicky eater will be interested in eating them. The grass feeder shrimp can reach a maximum of 2 inches but is normally sold at approximately 1 inch. The advantage of grass shrimp over the more commonly sold ghost shrimp is that grass shrimp can be kept directly in the display tank or refugium. Glass shrimp can survive and even reproduce in saltwater while ghost shrimp can only survive for a few hours.

Early action can mean the difference between a happy, healthy tank and an empty tank. Glass Shrimp are also beneficial in that they make a great addition to a reef cleaning crew. They will eat unwanted slime algae, uneaten food, fish waste, and any other detritus. These shrimps are peaceful and reef friendly omnivores that are a great live food source and are also very fun to watch swim and scramble around your tank.
Handling instructions:
1. Avoid temperature shock. Float the unopened bag in your tank for no more than 20 minutes to equalize water temperature.
2. Avoid oxygen starvation. Large quantities of feeder shrimp can run out of oxygen in a short period of time. Keep the shipping bag closed until temperature acclimation is finished. Pure oxygen is added to the bag to ensure survival and opening the bag too soon may result in the death of some shrimp.
3. The shipping water will have high concentrations of ammonia build up. Feeder shrimp have high metabolisms and can produce high amounts of ammonia during transit. Remove shrimp from the dirty shipping water by pouring through a net and discarding all of the shipping water. Shrimp can now be added to your display tank or kept in a separate holding tank of clean saltwater before feeding.
